In 2003, the Global Strategy for Asthma Prevention and Control (GINA) Committee proposed that there were an estimated 300 million asthma patients in the world, and the prevalence rate of asthma in Chinese children was 0.5-3% in 2000. The preliminary estimate was that there were about 10 million children with asthma in China, and there were about 25 million asthma patients in China. In 2000, a survey of 27 cities in China found that the prevalence of childhood asthma increased by about 70% compared with 1990, and some large cities increased by more than double.
Why are asthma rates rising so fast? This is related to air pollution and the continuous improvement of living standards. With the improvement of living conditions, people spend more and more time working, living and studying in sealed air-conditioned rooms, so indoor allergens have become the main sensitizing factors.
